Cuando Barack Obama decidió correr por la Presidencia de Estados Unidos, era sabido que su campaña no iba a ser una más. El hecho de ser un candidato de raza negra ya era un elemento contra el que debían trabajar sus estrategas.
Hay un principio básico en elecciones, que parte de la posición del electorado con respecto al gobierno de turno: si las mayorías respaldan al gobierno, el mensaje debe ser de continuidad. Si no lo respaldan, el mensaje es de cambio.
Y Si bien la urgencia del pueblo americano por un cambio de rumbo ante el desprestigio del gobierno de George W. Bush pudo favorecer a Obama, ya que en teoría encarnaba perfectamente ese cambio tan anhelado, también es cierto que debió enfrentar muchos obstáculos que se le atravesaron en el camino por cuenta de sus orígenes y falta de experiencia y para lo que sus estrategas debían posicionarlo muy sólidamente en el electorado.
En resumen, la campaña de Obama, como muchas, podía parecer cuesta arriba en muchos sentidos.
Los estrategas entendieron que la campaña no se iba a limitar a los temas políticos, económicos o sociales. Los estrategas decidieron entonces apoyar el trabajo en tres pilares: los temas de campaña, la marca de candidato y un magnífico manejo de comunicaciones.
Y en este sentido, la diferencia entre la primera campaña Obama y cualquier otra, es precisamente que en casi todas las campañas, las estrategias se concentran en los temas, mientras que los otros dos aspectos, marca de candidato y comunicaciones, presentan serias debilidades.
Ademas de su mensaje de cambio, el éxito de Obama radicó en su marca y en la forma de comunicarse con el electorado. Obama no fue un candidato, si no que se convirtió en un icono, una historia, una leyenda. Sin duda la mejor forma de conquistar el corazón del electorado.
Por otro lado, Obama utilizó las redes sociales impecablemente, conectándose con la gente de una manera sin precedentes en la historia de la política mundial.
Fue esta receta la que lo llevó a la Presidencia. Pero no hay que olvidar que una misma receta puede tener diferentes resultados. El secreto lo tiene el Chef.
